Azimuth has launched a watch designed after vintage robots of the 1950s. Why this interest me is because I like robots and have a small collection of robots (remote control ones). I understand that vintage robots are a passion of Azimuths founders, Christopher Long and Alvin Lye. The watch, aptly called Mr. Roboto is a stainless steel, tonneau-shaped watch that looks like the face of a robot. To me, it reminds me of Rosie, the Robot Maid from The Jetsons cartoon.

The Mr. Roboto watch is part of the Mecha-1 BMF series in the Azimuth collection. The watch will feature the hours as shown in the left eye and the second time zone on the right eye. The nose will show the continuously running second. The minutes will be displayed via a retrograde display in an aperture which becomes the mouth of the robot.

As with all watches in the Mecha-1 BMF series, the watch will feature the Torx Drive tamper resistant screws (10 off) and the case will be forged out of 316L stainless steel block. The watch comes in at 43 mm X 50 mm and will be powered by a modified ETA 2836-2 automatic movement. It is water resistant to 5 ATM. To top off the retro design, the crown is shaped like an old fashion winding key. The watch will come with a 24 mm rubber strap. The watch is expected to retail around USD 5,000.

That comparison to Rosie is great. Those picks belong together.
