I have a few watches that I got over the years that I no longer have the box. These watches are always in my drawer. So I decided to get some watch display stand for them. I managed to get some Casio and Seiko display stand for the watches from my local watch shop. However they can only give me a few pieces. So I have 3 watches that don't have a stand. I did not want to get a watch storage box as I do wear these watches from time to time.
So I went to the watch street here in Taipei. Sadly they did not have the display stands for sale. They (the shopkeepers) were nice enough to tell me where I could get some. I went to a street where they made and sell display cabinets. They did not have or made the watch display stand. One of the shopkeeper, however know of a place that sells stands for phones. He suggested we try there as they make anything out of plastic and acrylic.
Again I was off. This time to a street known as plastic/ acrylic street. Actually it is a misnomer. They street actually sells all types of packaging (paper and plastic), display stands (rings, mobile phones and anything else that requires a display stand) and plastic bags (decorative).
This time I got lucky. The did sell watch display stand. They can even custom make the display stand. The one I got is a basic design. It cost me about USD 4. It is made of an acrylic base and a plastic holder.
The base comes in 5 sizes. The thinnest and cheapest is 1 cm thick. The next model up has a 2 cm thick base and it works up to 4.5 cm, which is the thickest. The base design is basically a cube. It is made of transparent acrylic. The base measures 4 x 4 cm square. The price reduces with the reduction in height with the cheapest (1 cm) costing USD 3.
The display stand comes in two parts, the base and the watch holder. The watch holder is mounted on top of the base. A hole is drilled into the acrylic and the holder is fitted into the hole. The holder fits very well into the hole and is very tight. The holder is made of plastic and is a bit flexible. It will hold a watch in place by pressure.
The finish of the hole is good.
Hi Ivan, Where in taiwan did you get those stands? I am going there soon I hope to get some. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Marvin,
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the blog. I don't really know where or what is the name of the street but is on a street near Ximending. The street basically sells all things made of plastic or acrylics.
Best regards,
Ivan

DeleteHi Marvin,
DeleteNot really, just along the street. You can ask the people there. They are very helpful.
Best regards,
