A walkabout....

I went for a walkabout after my yearly check-up and decided to pay a visit to a shop that deals with pre-loved watches. It is located near the hospital. I like the place as they are pretty reasonable and the people there know their stuff. They are also very friendly.

Anyway, while I was there, they showed my a couple of Panerai watches, knowing that I like the brand. Two models caught my eye. They were the PAM00305 Luminor Submersible and the PAM00187 Luminor Submersible Chrono 1000.

I have to say that I agree with what the general consensus say  about the 47 mm Panerai. 47 is the new 44. Also, I do like the 1950 case that both models spot. I do not have a 1950 case in my collection (if you can it a collection). The 1950 case is very nice and it does have a nice feel and weight to it. I tried both the watches and have to say that it does not look out of place or that it overhangs from my 7.5 inch wrist.

The PAM00305.

The PAM00187

I have to say that I do really like the PAM00187. It is a limited edition watch from 2004 (run of 1,000 pieces over two years from what I understand). It is thick and robust and looks very very Panerai, bold and big. At the same time, I also like the PAM00305. I have always like the Submersible. I had one (PAM00024 D series) but gave it up when I decided to streamline my collection to only the Historic collection. I have been pinning for one since.

Anyway I did not leave the shop with any of the watches as the prices were pretty steep for me. The PAM00305 came in at about USD 8,300 (new USD 9,600) while the PAM00187, being a limited edition retailed at USD 14,600 (new USD 9,100). Very beautiful watches with a very nice 1950 case design and one with an in-house movement and the other limited edition (and BIG). Perhaps one day or maybe a 44 mm 1950 case watch....
