I was shown this watch today. I have to say that I do like the watch. It is the IWC Spitfire Mk XV Limited/ Special Edition watch. This watch was produced in 2001 and is a limited edition run of 1,000 pieces. It was specially for the British market. The actual model name and reference: Fliegeruhr Automatik Mark XV, reference 3253-005.
The watch commemorates the famous British Royal Air Force Spitfire which had a major role in the Battle of Britain. The case back has a relief of the plane. The dial, which is plain and simple reminds me of the dial of the 'holy grail' of pilot watches from IWC the Mk IX. I do like the cathedral like hands as well.
Basic specifications:
Functions: hours, minutes and seconds
Case: stainless steel, 38 mm diameter, 11 mm thick
Movement: IWC automatic calibre 37524, 21 jewel movement
Crystal: sapphire
Water resistant: 6 ATM
The watch.
The beautiful dial with the luminous Arabic hour markers. The Spitfire legend at the 6 o'clock position indicates the relationship between the watch and the plane.
The case back. The relief of the plane and the limited edition serial number.
Hi, Any idea why the zero on the number '10' appears to be too small/high?
ReplyDeleteHi Steve,
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the blog. Thank you for the post in the IWC forum at IWC on the very same question. At least now we know some of the possible reasons for the design of the number 10.
Best regards,
Ivan
