I recently picked this up.... The Maranez Rawai. I believe it is named after Rawai Beach in Phuket (could be wrong). The basic specifications:
Model: Maranez Rawai
Movement: NH35 automatic
Case diameter: 45mm excluding the crown - lug to lug 56mm -
height 18mm - weight on leather strap 166g
Case material: Brushed stainless steel
Bezel: 120 clicks brushed stainless steel but a brass lumed
pin at 12
Crown: Screw down steel crown 11mm
Crystal: Acrylic (double domed)
Dial: Black, green, blue or brown, indices with Super
Luminova
Water-resistance: 300m/1000ft
Strap: 24mm leather one dark and one light brown
Buckle: Brushed stainless steel
The watch I have is currently fitted with an old Ammo strap from WotanCraft.
Anyway, my initial impression? Nice watch, great value for the money. I like the design and the size. It, the design, is based on an Italian designed watch for the military.
The Rawai...
I like the vintage feel of the watch, with its Ecru lume.
Simple dial, easy time reading.
Vertical brushing and no tool marks. I like my watches thick. :)
Huge large crown.
Screw down case back.
The Maranez logo on the case back.
Bezel pip, brass. Nice touch.
Minute markers on the bezel. Very tactile.
Brushed brass (?) hands.
Sandwich dial.
Screws to hold the strap.
The crown and stem tube. Little details that makes the watch great value.
A full review will be out soon (I hope).
I stay in Rawai and I've never heard of this watch in the area at all! Certainly looks like more research can be done into it to figure out if its roots really come from here.
ReplyDeleteHi Benni,
DeleteWelcome to the blog. Thanks for the information. Certainly more research is needed to establish if the watch is indeed named after Rawai Beach. I base it on the fact that the brand Maranez is from Thailand, specifically Phuket and most of their watches seems to match popular spots in Phuket. Perhaps I assume too much. :)
Best regards,
Ivan
